Eict Announcing the Kangxi Emperor’s Assumption of Personal Rule

The Kangxi Emeperor ascended to the throne at the age of eight, and thus, all of his administrative decisions were supervised by his four regents: Sonin, Suksaha, Ebilun and Oboi. There have been memorials suggesting the Emperor to assume his personal rule since 1666.  In April 1667, these four ministers requested to relinquish their powers as regents.  The Kangxi Emperor, with approval from the Empress Dowager, eventually agreed to their request in August of the same year and assumed personal ruling, as proclaimed in this edict.
