Qi Xi Tien was originally used by the Southern Song imperial court as an imperial lecture hall. The hall was renovated between 1232 and 1233. Upon the completion of the renovation, Emperor Li Zong named the hall Qi Xi, and the hall was then used to store royal collection of books and artworks.
Zhu Zhongxuan (1428-1502), great-great-grandson of the Hongwu Emperor, inherited the Princedom of Jin in 1442. His library was named Jing De Tang.
