This incense censer was in the shape of a bronze cauldron. Resulting from the prevalence of Buddhism in the Sui and Tang period, the need of burning incenses to make offering to Buddha increased. As the skills of making porcelain and gilt silvers had matured by then, incense censers were made in various materials and came in various shapes.
