P’an Plate with Dragon Decor

This basin is a vessel for receiving and holding water after one has washed their hands or face. The use of this kind of basin has largely remained unchanged from the Shang dynasty to the Warring States period. Shang basins are frequently ornamented with dragons, turtles, fish, or other motifs linked with water, and a dragon motif circles the outside of this basin. It has a capacity of 10,680 ml. When discovered, this basin was adhered to a Basin and unearthed with other vessels and implements used for washing.
