Proclamation of the Ascension to the Throne of the Shunzhi Emperor

During the Qing dynasty, whenever an emperor ascended to the throne, he would issue an imperial edict.  Qing forces marched through the fortifications of the Shanhai Pass on May 27, 1644 and later marched into the city of Beijing in June  of that year.  On November 8th, 1644, the Shunzhi Emperor issued this edict proclaiming his ascension to the throne and the establishment of the Qing dynasty while naming Beijing its capital. This imperial edict was written only in Mandarin Chinese, and was written in black ink on a piece of yellow paper.
