Investigating Literary Quotations of the Four Books

Ling Shu (courtesy name Xiaolou) first printed his Investigating Literary Quotations of the Four Books in 1808, and later, his writings were compiled by his nephew Liu Wenqi (1789–1854) into Collection of Feiyun Pavilion, published sometime during the Jiaqing and Daoguang reigns. Throughout the Qing dynasty, books for preparing the imperial examinations were often an amalgamation of writings by several authors for the purpose of either compiling works of the same school of thought (or specific author) or as a response to market orientations.
