Communication from Ministry of Personnel on the Administered Punishments of Officials
Following the review of examination papers from the Zhejiang, Fujian, Sichuan, and Yunnan—among others—provincial exams in 1855, it was discovered that the additions and other annotations made to black ink exam papers exceeded the number of allowed characters and that the vermillion copies had omissions. The examination officials lost three to twelve months of salary and successful candidates were forced to miss the next metropolitan exam.
