Communication from Ministry of Rites on the Unsuccessful Imposture at the Examination Grounds

In the Shaanxi provincial examination of 1825, talented juren Li Yinquan offered to take the exam on behalf of another in an effort to support his impoverished family, receiving 1,800 taels if the candidate was successful or 200 if he did not pass. The attempted fraud was unsuccessful, resulting in being flogged one hundred times, imprisoned for three years, and placed in a cangue for two months, among other punishments.
