According to the Qing code, the patent by the ordinance was bestowed by the emperor or obtained through inheritance with no limitation on generations, conferring titles of honor on officials of the fifth rank or higher. In 1710, Baoliang inherited the title of General Fengen, which was conferred to officers of the fourth rank.
