The Genre Paintings of Taiwan’s Aboriginal Peoples:Tilling the Fields
This picture depicts the planting of rice in the indigenous villages of Tokau, Lohanmeng, and Sincan, areas where Han Chinese influence had been penetrating. Traditionally, it was women who did agricultural work, with men delivering food for them. But by the mid-eighteenth century, men began to also work in the fields.
