Questions from the 3rd Section of the Military Metropolitan Examination
This example of a military metropolitan exam question in 1748 comprises two discourses and one policy. The first essay is on an expression from the Analects on the relationship between how one acts and shame; and the second, taken from the chapter “Tuguo” of the military classic Wuzi, centers on using “justice” to establish oneself and govern the state. The two essays, one of which does not concern a military classic, are notably on virtue.
