Black Ink Version of the 3rd Section Metropolitan Examination Paper by Zhao Hao
Candidates used black ink when answering the questions of the metropolitan exams in the Qing dynasty, referred to as a black ink examination paper. The section of the examination was in the center of the cover fold, and the candidate was to write their identifying information to the left and right: name, age, native place, date, province, etc. A blank section was provided for drafting the responses, and once finished, the candidate would transcribe their writing into the later section with vermillion borders.
