Communication from Ministry of Justice  on the Attempted Imposture at the Imperial Examination Case

In 1793, the Tianjin prefectural exam experienced a case of attempted imposture. The plot concerned tongsheng He Tianqu who had schemed to be replaced by Gao Weiyu. Gao was to first take the test by assuming the identity of tongsheng Yao Huikui and then enter the hall with He. After finishing his exam paper, Gao was then intended to pass the paper to He. At the time of roll call, however, Gao’s attempted impersonation was discovered. All involved parties were sent to a military outpost on the southern frontier as punishment.
