The Genre Paintings of Taiwan’s Aboriginal Peoples: Village Teacher
Taiwan was absorbed by the Ch'ing empire in 1683. On, or perhaps before this date, the gradual process of Han acculturation was initiated. By 1734, most Peipon village had established Chinese schools whose educators were called "Village teachers". They taught village children to read and write. This picture depicts the teaching of the village teacher.
