Calendar

This slip is a calendar of the end of the fourth through the fifth month of the fifth year of the Yuankang era (61 B.C.). The first few lines indicate that “Qinbing” (laying down one’s weapons or an armistice) here equates to taking leave, a five-day respite revolving from the twenty-ninth day of the fourth month (day of Gengxu) to the fourth day of the fifth month (day of Jiayin). Moreover, the second day of the fifth month (day of Renzi) was the summer solstice, which is in accordance with the “Imperial Edict of 61 B.C.,” both slips of which were unearthed at A33 Ulan-durbeljin. Some scholar maintains that this calendar was likely appended to the “Imperial Edict of 61 B.C.” to serve as a reminder.
