Imperial Edict on Bestowing an Additional Honorary Title upon the Empress Dowager Chongqing

According to the Qing code, an additional honorary title should be conferred upon the Empress Dowager when a national celebration was held. The title may contain two or four characters, whose eminence should be incrementally increased. To celebrate the 60th birthday of Empress Dowager Chongqing (Lady Niohuru, 1691-1777), Emperor Qianlong conferred the title Yushou (“prosperous longevity”) upon his mother’s prior honorary titles of Chongqing (“illustrious jubilance”), Cixuan (“manifest compassion”), Kanghui (“salubrious mercy”), and Dunhe (“agreeable peace”).
