“Repaying a Nuo Vow” Ritual Objects.
Referred to as liujin or liuqi, this ritual object is used by the Miao of western Hunan to expel malevolent spirits. It also serves as proof that the ritual specialist is qualified to preside over ceremonies. During the ritual, the specialist sweeps the broom with his left hand in a fluid motion, dazzling and bewildering onlookers.
