Stupa Inscription at the Daxinguo Temple in Dengzhou
The second distribution of sarira by Emperor Wen of Sui took place in less than a year after the first one, and it happened on April the 8th, a day of significance to the Buddhist followers as it was the birthday of Gautama (Sakyamuni) Buddha. Emperor Wen of Sui was indicated in this inscription as a person taking refuge in Buddhist teachings and propagating Buddhism. It went on and talked about his intention in encouraging good deeds to be done and his hope that the merits accumulated from building the stupas and housing the sarira would help all sentient beings to receive enlightenment and become Buddhas. The inscriptions further talked about how Emperor Wen of Sui was blessed by Buddha because of his undivided belief in Buddhism, and incidents where sarira miraculously materialized in the royal palace.
