Antler Object Chia 3942
The well-polished antler object is carved with the name of a high-ranking military general during the reign of King Wu Ting: Ya () Ch’ueh (). The “Ch’ueh” script is formed by placing the character “small” on top of a “bird,” which literally means “small bird” and in combination they mean “sparrow.” It is used as a personal or state name in oracle bone inscriptions. The fine carving technique on this artifact incises the sparrow with a big round eye in artistic strokes.
