In the Western Chou, various ornaments were attached to the bridles of chariot horses. This horse frontlet is in the shape of an animal mask, with a lower section curved to fit the horse. When unearthed, it hung on the southern wall of the tomb, surrounded by horse bit, reins, and strap decorations.
