FAQ

What languages are the museum guided tours given in? How to apply for a tour?
The Museum offers Chinese regular tours and Chinese / English group tours by reservation.

  • Chinese regular tour: 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. on opening Saturdays. No reservation needed. When open lectures are held in the afternoon, the tour will be shifted to 10:30 a.m. of the day. 
  • Chinese / English group tour: the group in the size over 15 people may reserve a guided tour two weeks in advance via ⇛the "Visit - Book a GroupTour" webpage.
  • Guided tours are stopped on the annual Academia Sinica Open House Day (last Saturday of October) for special events to be held. 
Are there other museum guide options than guided tours?
The Museum provides mobile audio guide which visitors can access on their own devices by scanning QR Codes in the exhibition hall (the system is temporarily closed for upgrading maintenance. The announcement will be made when the service will be back online. We apologize for the inconvenience caused).
The Chinese / English / Japanese Guiding Kiosk at the lobby, latest information provided on computers in the 1st and 2nd floor exhibition halls, and the introductory video "Economics, Human Ecology and Settlement" displayed at the Artifacts from Ethnic Groups of Southwestern China exhibition on the 2nd floor also serve for the audience's better understanding to our exhibits.
How to purchase museum publications and creative crafts?
The Museum's publications and creative crafts may be purchased by cash with New Taiwan Dollar at the museum shop of the lobby during opening hours. Please see ⇛the "Shop" webpage for product details. Some of the bestsellers can also be purchased at the AS Gift Shop in Academic Activities Center on campus. For further information, please contact ⇛ the Facebook page of AS Gift Shop.

How to apply for a press interview or photography permission or in the museum?
Photography is allowed in the exhibition hall, but the prior application permitted by the Institute is required for the following conditions:
  1. Using auxiliary equipment such as lash, light capturing equipment, tripods, or selfie sticks.
  2. Publishing the photography, including to post online.
  3. Making photography outside the museum opening hours.

To apply for photography permission or image authorization, please refer to the ⇛"Visit-Photography Permission" page. To conduct a press interview, please contact the museum by phone or e-mail.
Does the museum hold new exhibitions and events at a regular base?
The museum holds mainly permanent exhibitions of the Institute's collections. Every year, one or two special exhibitions are curated, and some exhibition sections change exhibits three to four times routinely. Lectures, workshops, and other educational activities are organized in coordination with the exhibition plans.
Is there any food or beverage service in the museum?
The museum is not affiliated with dining places. Dining services provided by the ⇛Breeze Gourmet on campus.
