The Genre Paintings of Taiwan’s Aboriginal Peoples:Raising the Roof
Some buildings of the plains indigenous peoples were built on elevated platforms constructed of stamped earth and paved with stone; other structures built on wooden stilts are reminiscent of the pile dwellings of Southern China. The indigenous used laced bamboo for their walls and woven grass for the rooftops. Houses were similar in form to that of an overturned boat, as can be seen in this picture. A porch in front was accessible by stairs. There were usually two to four entrances to each house, and the doors were painted.
