Artifact R016917 is the model of a square ting cauldron, of which only the upper part remains. Of the four sides, only one long and one short are carved with an ox-horned zoomorphic mask pattern, probably used to produce two duplicate sides; moreover, the edge of the two carved sides has a V-shaped groove into which a flange mold can be embedded. Artifact R016988 is the model of the upper left part of the vessel body, with a bird pattern and a V-shaped groove into which a flange mold can be embedded. R017297 is the model of a cauldron handle, with R017289:16 being the clay mold; R017265 is the model of a leg. Remarkably, R016917 still has traces of inserting a handle, indicating that the handle mold was likely produced separately. Presumably, the models for the handles, body, and flanges are pseudo-fixed to form a complete assemblage for the reimpression of outer molds. R017084:2 and R017202:02 are the rim-to-neck mold sections for a round ting cauldron, whereas R016908 is the mold for the lower half of a square cauldron body. R016741 and R017129:1 are outer molds for cauldron legs, three of which can be assembled to cast one leg. Once the leg mold sections are inserted into the body mold, the assemblage will complete a cauldron model. Based on these models, we are able to infer that craft workers pseudo-fixed the models of each complex component to allow the models can be easily detached and to remove the outer mold sections.
