Xiangwen Report from the Pacification Commissioner of Rongmei Tribe in Huguang Reigon
According to the Ming code, local officials used xiangwen to report to their superiors. The composition of the xiangwen was complicated and could not bypass immediate superiors. Whenever a xiangwen was issued, a response had to be sent with instructions for the reporting officials to follow.
