The Genre Paintings of Taiwan’s Aboriginal Peoples: Catching Fish
This picture depicts two methods of catching fish employed by the Siraya of Backlauan and Dorcko in South Taiwan. One requires a bamboo basket, or “koa,” to catch fish, and for the other, bows, arrows, and spears are used to skewer them. Under Han Chinese influence, the practice of spearing fish gradually disappeared. After the fish were caught, they were immediately placed into a bamboo basket tied to the waist.
