Grand Golden Placard from the Military Palace Examination

The grand golden placard was transcribed once the emperor’s decision was made. After a roll call, the staff of the Ministry of Rites would carry the placard to display it outside the East Changan Gate of Beijing. The placard procession was constituted by the first-ranking metropolitan graduates, led by the Principal Graduate topping the pass list. Three days later the placard would be sent back to the Grand Secretariat’s depository. The placard from the military examination was carried by the Ministry of War and displayed outside the West Changan Gate of Beijing.
