Tags Affixed to Wooden Slip Volumes
Tags were typically attached to bound volumes or other objects and with the names of the contents. Ones with a perforated hole near the top and others with notches made on both sides. A cord was then used to affix the tag to the item. Looking at contents detailed on the tags on display here, such as “sishi za bu” (seasonal register of goods) and “shuzu bu” (register of garrison soldiers), it is likely that all were used to label volumes.
