Academy of Shang Bronzes - An Interactive Multimedia Exhibition

In 2020, the Museum of the Institute of History and Philology (MIHP) held the interactive multimedia exhibition “Daji Speaks,” which featured Daji, the queen consort of King Zhou of Shang. This exhibition utilized innovative technologies such as virtual-space 3D polyhedron animation software, Vicon motion capture systems, Cloud Speech API, and ToF (Time of Flight) to create Daji’s animation image, an armed female aristocrat. “Daji Speaks” included two programs, “Shang Dynasty Gossip” and “Traveling beyond the Shang Dynasty”, from which visitors could have a better understanding on Shang society and culture.

Now in 2024, we present a new exhibition, "Academy of Shang Bronzes", which focuses on bronze knowledge. After attending the virtual Daji’s lectures on bronzes, visitors are welcome to explore the “The Ruins of Yin ” exhibition. The “Shang and Zhou Discussion Room” features an animation of Daji and Commander Bomaofu of the Western Zhou discussing the situation prior to and the aftermath of the Battle of Muye (1046 BCE) which reflects the political and cultural differences between the Shang and Zhou dynasties. In the “Illustrated Collection of Shang Weapons” program, visitors can learn more about weaponry in the Shang Dynasty through designing their own unique weapons. Meanwhile, two previous programs, " Shang Dynasty Gossip " and " Traveling beyond the Shang Dynasty," are retained in this exhibition, extending the scope of Shang culture.
