Seating Chart for the Imperial Banquet at the Hall of Supreme Harmony (Modified)
This seating chart was produced from the point of view of the chart creator and reader. Specifically, it was developed from top to bottom and form left to right. Texts were used to indicate seating order and distribution. There were subsequent modifications and corrections. Therefore, it was not likely the finalized version to be reviewed by the emperor. It was probably a working draft based on an earlier version in preparation for Emperor Tongzhi (1856-1875)’s 20th birthday banquet on the New Year’s Day in 1874. Unfortunately, the event was not blessed with the presence of the emperor, who passed away at age 19 on January 12, 1875.
