ict Announcing Emperor Qianlong's Ascendance to the Throne

The Qianlong Emperor was the fourth son of the Yongzheng Emperor.  He was favored by his grandfather, Kangxi, and was secretly designated as heir to the throne in 1723.  Qianlong ascended to the throne according to his father’s testamentary edict in 1735.  Several ministers and members from the royal family were named regents in Yongzheng’s last testament, but they all rejected the title as they knew too well that the 25-year-old Qianlong was eager to exercise power on his own.  The young emperor naturally agreed to retract their titles as regents.
